ELI Courses

PPS 144s - Social Entrepreneurship in Action (Fall, Spring - Brown): Teams of students will define a promising idea and develop a compelling plan that addresses a real problem or opportunity in the Duke or Durham communities, with the objectives of creating meaningful learning experiences for themselves and something of enduring value for the community. This course is for non-seniors only. [Permission Number Only]

PPS 146 - Leadership Development & Organizations (Fall - Brown): This course provides students with relevant insights, knowledge, analytical competence, and skills important to exercising ethical, enterprising leadership in organizations and informal groups.

PPS 195S-30 - Moral Courage and Leadership (Fall, Spring - Brown): This course is designed as a collaborative, coordinated class project, where the class will work to create and present a credible plan for action to support Duke students' moral courage development.

Apply for the ELI Summer Leadership Accelerator:

The ELI Summer Leadership Accelerator is an opportunity for students to have a developmental summer experience that includes an internship placement involving a high level of responsibility and accountability, a financial stipend, and active personal coaching and support. Apply for the ELI Incubator:

Are you launching or leading a social initiative that could benefit from targeted coaching from ELI faculty, staff, alumni and other university advisors? The ELI Incubator assists compelling early-stage initiatives in getting off of the ground and achieving sustainability. To set up a meeting with ELI staff to discuss entry into the Incubator, contact ELI Program Manager Liz Linzer at elizabeth.linzer@duke.edu. 

Engage as Alumni:

COACHING: Continuing coaching and mentorship after college, especially in times of transition or tough decision-making

CONNECTING: Making meaningful connections between alumni by hosting gatherings in Durham and alumni home cities

PARTICIPATING: Providing opportunities for alumni to participate in ELI courses and programming (i.e. student projects in Tony’s Social Entrepreneurship in Action course, hosting a student summer internship)

CREATING: Supporting alumni-created ventures with coaching, connections to members of the Duke and ELI networks, connections to student support on campus and through internships.

PILOTING: Pilot testing new Duke-Alumni and Faculty-Alumni interaction models and models for assisting with twentysomething development after graduation.
